I would recommend this book to anybody. This book led to my better understanding of situations and groups of people that I knew very little about. Ruby Payne's analysis and explanation of behavioral trends in various socio-economic groups opened my eyes to things that I had witnessed but OBVIOUSLY did not understand.
Knowing what to expect and WHY, bring me to a place where I can create strategies and techniques for myself in working with these students.
These students need to know things about middle class norms and values. If we know what they do not know, we know where to begin.
I would recommend this book to anyone that will be working with children, not just teachers. This is a great book to better understand the behaviors of all children, not just the children living in poverty. If we can all better understand the backgrounds of others we will be better able to work together in school, work, etc.
